The original founder worked at the geothermal plant just behind & discovered that when he applied the white silica sand mud to his skin, his psoriasis cleared up, so he opened this up to the public. The water comes out of the ground at 160F / 71c & is mixed with the colder water of the nearby clean clear water ponds to get the warm 100F / 38c temperature of the Blue Lagoon. It is located in an active geothermal area of lava fields ... in the video you see nothing but black rock around, but now having been all the way around Iceland, I can tell you it is one of the most beautiful, magical & enchanting countries I h...

Blue Lagoon Iceland is a hot spring spa situated between Keflavik airport and Reykjavik. It only takes 20 minutes to drive there from Reykjavik. Don’t worry if you got all of your luggage with you, there is a secure luggage storage for you there for a low price. The lagoon is a magical bathing spot in the middle of the lava and it is full of silica mud and other minerals that are considered healthy for your skin. All the Blue Lagoon products are sold in a shop inside the service building and it’s a great idea to take a little bit of the experience with you in a bottle or to buy it as a gift for your friends and family at home. Don’t forget to try out the sauna and steam bath which is located next to the waterfall inside the lava cave. The water in the Blue Lagoon Iceland comes from a geothermal power plant which is situated next to the lagoon so it is a man made lagoon. The ingredients in the silica mud comes from the deep root of the volcanic earth. If you want to treat yourself and spend some money you can get an in water massage, an exclusive lounge where you’ll get a VIP treatment or get you something to eat at the Lava restaurant. There is also a luxury hotel situated a few hundred meters away from the lagoon where you can spend the night and take a bath in a small but privet lagoon. It’s an great idea to spend some time walking around and take some great pictures of the landscape next to the main building but be sure to walk on the footpaths because it’s easy to get lost in the lava or get hurt if you fall in all that rocks. We also recommend going to the viewing platform to take some pictures over the lagoon. Book your tour to the Blue Lagoon here: https://guidetoiceland.is/process/tou... The Blue Lagoon (Icelandic: Bláa lónið) geothermal spa is one of 120 the most visited attractions in Iceland.[1] The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwestern Iceland. Bláa lónið is situated approximately 20 km (12 mi) from the Keflavík International Airport and 39 km (24 mi) from the capital city of Reykjavík, roughly a 21-minute drive from the airport and a 50-minute drive from Reykjavík. Panoramic view of Blue Lagoon The warm waters are rich in minerals like silica and sulfur and bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help some people suffering from skin diseases such as psoriasis.[2] The water temperature in the bathing and swimming area of the lagoon averages 37–75 °C (99–167 °F). The Blue Lagoon also operates a research and development facility to help find cures for other skin ailments using the mineral-rich water. The lagoon is a man-made lagoon which is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant Svartsengi and is renewed every two days. Superheated water is vented from the ground near a lava flow and used to run turbines that generate electricity. After going through the turbines, the steam and hot water passes through a heat exchanger to provide heat for a municipal water heating system. Then the water is fed into the lagoon for recreational and medicinal users to bathe in. Iceland has a strict code of hygiene and guests are required to shower before bathing. Children under the age of 9 years old are only allowed entry with the use of armbands, provided free of charge. The lagoon is not suitable for children under the age of 2 years. The rich mineral content is provided by the underground geological layers and pushed up to the surface by the hot water (at about 1.2 MPa (170 psi) pressure and 240 °C (464 °F) temperature) used by the plant. Because of its mineral concentration, water cannot be recycled and must be disposed of in the nearby landscape, a permeable lava field that varies in thickness from 50 cm (20 in) to 1 m (3.3 ft). The silicate minerals is the primary cause of that water's milky blue shade. After the minerals have formed a deposit, the water reinfiltrates the ground, but the deposit renders it impermeable over time, hence the necessity for the plant to continuously dig new ponds in the nearby lava field. A small experimental facility is still visible near the plant, where the engineers made decantation tests to evaluate the speed of mineral deposition, which is clearly a limiting factor both to the plant's rentability and sustainability. Hence, geothermal energy exploitation at this location is not without environmental impact. The Blue Lagoon was used as the pit stop for the first leg of The Amazing Race 6. The Blue Lagoon was used for the thermal spa scenes in the filming of Hostel: Part II. It was also shown in the Incubus documentary Look Alive, when the band visited Iceland, in the fifth cycle of Britain's Next Top Model which used as photoshoot location as well as Keeping up with the Kardashians. The Blue Lagoon is situated close to the world's first renewable methanol plant, which uses Carbon Recycling International's carbon dioxide to methanol fuel process.[3] History[edit] In 1976, a pool formed at the site from the waste water of the geothermal power plant that had just been built there. In 1981, people started bathing in it after its supposed healing powers were popularized. In 1992, the Blue Lagoon company was established, and the bathing facility was opened for the public. In recent years, several cosmetics companies have begun marketing skin care products using mud purportedly extracted from the Blue Lagoon, their effectiveness still subject to debate.Beautiful places to travel to game : http://www.purposegames.com/game/beautiful-places-aroud-the-world-quizbeautiful, travel, travel destination, travel advice, skyline, famous buildings, street life nice city, tourist , toursm, beautiful, pictures, beautiful photographs, landmarks, street life, life, street, streets, aerial, famous, parks, statues, people, nice people, friendly , friendly people, amazing, train station, city hall, hotel, vacation, trees, green, technology, pituresque, wonderful, impression, happy people, photo, photo video,Youtube Red, ature, natural park,

When in Iceland, this is one of those must see / do places, just 30 minutes from the capital, Reykjavik. The water appears so blue because of the white silica sand on the bottom. It is located in an active geothermal area of lava fields ... in the video you see nothing but black rock around, but now having been all the way around Iceland, I can tell you it is one of the most beautiful, magical & enchanting countries I have ever seen with it's 24 hour daylight in the summer, volcanos, geysers, steam vents, hot springs, pools and streams, bubbling sulphur mud pools, glaciers, forests, fjords, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, rugged coasts, beaches, mountains, valleys, green meadows, plains & deserts. It is a combination of England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada & the USA all rolled into one place. The people speak Icelandic which is actually an old Norwegian dialect, but almost all also speak English, which makes this a very easy & friendly country to navigate in. It is also rated as the safest country in the world. If a visit to this unique country is not on your "bucket list", it should be ... there are so many things to discover here every day of your trip!
