When in Iceland, this is one of those must see / do places, just 30 minutes from the capital, Reykjavik. The water appears so blue because of the white silica sand on the bottom. The original founder worked at the geothermal plant just behind & discovered that when he applied the white silica sand mud to his skin, his psoriasis cleared up, so he opened this up to the public. The water comes out of the ground at 160F / 71c & is mixed with the colder water of the nearby clean clear water ponds to get the warm 100F / 38c temperature of the Blue Lagoon. It is located in an active geothermal area of lava fields ... in the video you see nothing but black rock around, but now having been all the way around Iceland, I can tell you it is one of the most beautiful, magical & enchanting countries I h...

It is a combination of England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada & the USA all rolled into one place. The people speak Icelandic which is actually an old Norwegian dialect, but almost all also speak English, which makes this a very easy & friendly country to navigate in. It is also rated as the safest country in the world. If a visit to this unique country is not on your "bucket list", it should be ... there are so many things to discover here every day of your trip! A little bit of HISTORY: The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The steamy waters are part of a lava formation. The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwestern Iceland. Bláa lónið is situated approximately 13 km (8 miles) from the Keflavík International Airport and 39 km (24 miles) from the capital city of Reykjavík. That is roughly a 20 minute drive from the airport and a 40 minute drive from Reykjavík. The Blue Lagoon spa and geothermal complex is clearly visible from satellites orbit. REYKJAVIK HISTORY: Reykjavík is the capital and largest city in Iceland. Its latitude, at 64°08' N, makes it the world's northernmost capital of a sovereign state. Blue Lagoon Iceland is a hot spring spa situated between Keflavik airport and Reykjavik. It only takes 20 minutes to drive there from Reykjavik. Don’t worry if you got all of your luggage with you, there is a secure luggage storage for you there for a low price. The lagoon is a magical bathing spot in the middle of the lava and it is full of silica mud and other minerals that are considered healthy for your skin. All the Blue Lagoon products are sold in a shop inside the service building and it’s a great idea to take a little bit of the experience with you in a bottle or to buy it as a gift for your friends and family at home. Don’t forget to try out the sauna and steam bath which is located next to the waterfall inside the lava cave. The water in the Blue Lagoon Iceland comes from a geothermal power plant which is situated next to the lagoon so it is a man made lagoon. The ingredients in the silica mud comes from the deep root of the volcanic earth. If you want to treat yourself and spend some money you can get an in water massage, an exclusive lounge where you’ll get a VIP treatment or get you something to eat at the Lava restaurant. There is also a luxury hotel situated a few hundred meters away from the lagoon where you can spend the night and take a bath in a small but privet lagoon. It’s an great idea to spend some time walking around and take some great pictures of the landscape next to the main building but be sure to walk on the footpaths because it’s easy to get lost in the lava or get hurt if you fall in all that rocks. We also recommend going to the viewing platform to take some pictures over the lagoon. Book your tour to the Blue Lagoon here: https://guidetoiceland.is/process/tou... A few hours after arriving at Keflavik Airport in Iceland, a bus picked us up and brought us to the amazing Blue Lagoon geothermal spa! The goopy white stuff is some sort of silica mixture that condenses out of the water (it's also what gives the water its milky blue color), and is supposed to be good for your skin. http://www.bluelagoon.com Subscribe so you can keep up with the rest of my trip! Reykjavik, Iceland’s coastal capital, is renowned for the late-night clubs and bars in its compact center. It's home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history. The striking concrete Hallgrimskirkja church and rotating Perlan glass dome offer sweeping views of the sea and nearby hills. Exemplifying the island’s dramatic landscape is the volcanic setting of the geothermal Blue Lagoon spa.
